A MILLIONAIRE AND A FAMILY

Every year hundreds of films are being recorded around the world. Some of them are having repercussions; on the other side of the coin some of them are being neglected. Some of them are winning awards, some of them are forgotten. “Slumdog Millionaire” and “A Separation” are two films which took attention and wined Oscars. In this essay the aim is to put forth the similarities and distinctions between these two films. The main three similarities are films types, their persuasiveness and realism, and their winning Oscar. Differences between the two films are countries which they produced in, the fields of their awards which they wined and their subjects.

The first similarity is their types. One of them is about a young boy’s life, another one is about a family’s struggling. Even if their subjects are different, each one of the two films is a type of drama. Second similarity between the two films is their reality. Both of them are very realistic. We can see or experience the events which are showed in the films in our life. The award which they wined is the last similarity. They are seen as the one of the most successful films and they wined the same award -named Oscar- in different years.

The first distinction of two films is the countries which they were recorded. “Slumdog Millionaire” was shot in India and “A Separation” was recorded in Iran. Because of that they have the effects of different cultures in them. Another difference is the fields of awards which they wined. “Slumdog Millionaire” wined 81st Academy with 8 Oscar Awards for best picture, director, screenplay, cinematography, sound mixing, editing, original score, and original song, on the other hand “A Separation” earned the Oscar of 2012 for best foreign-language film. Final difference is their subjects and endings. “Slumdog Millionaire” is a story of a young boy named Jamal, his childhood, his love of his life and his struggling for his love and his older brother. At the end of the film the boy finds his love and the story ends happily. On the contrary “A Separation” includes a family life but story ends as a multi-drama.

To sum up, even if they have some distinctions, the films are reflecting two different dramas of a family and a young man successfully. They are showing us real face of life in different ways. “A Separation” is an open- ended film. There is an uncertainty at the end, you can’t be happy about the character’s life like them.  In “Slumdog Millionaire” you can be happy and maybe that makes the “Slumdog Millionaire” more watchable, it depends on you but we can be sure about that they are the two most striking and successful films around the world.
