THE CLASS OF ELIT 371
I attended ELIT 371 class in Yeditepe University. Our lesson took place at Law Faculty’s Building. The building is very simple it was not complicated. I found my class easily and I was there five minutes before teachers coming. While I was waiting for my teacher I found the chance of observing the class. Students were sitting disorderly. There was not any seating arrangement. On the left side there were windows and on the right side we have two doors. The class was very simple too. Walls and desks were grey. There were a picture of Ataturk and a white board,45 desks and 25 students in class. A girl was sitting in front of the window and watching outside, also she was eating something. A big group was speaking loudly, they were laughing and joking. Two girls was speaking about lesson, one of them was putting a worksheet in hand. Behind me, there were some students, too. They were waiting for teacher and drinking chocolate milk. After a few minutes, three student groups came to class and they found desks for themselves.
Then our teacher was seen at the door. She is not very young, she has short and nearly all white hairs but a few pinches were dyed red. She wore a flowery dress and she had long boots. She put her belongings on her chair and she put her stuff on the white lectern. Then she turned to students. She wanted students who were sitting at back to change their chair. Students changed their places and they came closer to our teacher. She started to talk loudly some students did not care but she warned them in order to took every students’ attention. As a result of that every student focused on our teacher. She started to talk with students about daily things so as to make them more relaxed. Then, she started to ask questions about our last topic with the help of questions teacher reminded students the last topic for providing a permanent learning. After for a while, she started to mention about minimal pairs. She gave us a great description of our topic while she was describing she also asked questions so she checked whether students understand the topic or not. To make learning more effective she gave different types of examples.
But some students did not understand topic very well. Because our teacher’s style of writing or using the board is very complicated and that makes students confused. I have the same opinion with them but I have not any difficulty to understand her because I have information about our topic. ıf I had not known, I would have difficulty. While teacher were teaching, students were asking questions and our teacher explained, answered in detail.
To sum up, our lesson was ordinary, constant. To make lesson more exciting, our teacher can do something. She can use different materials and teaching methods but in spite of everything I love our teacher and her lesson. She always ready for teaching and guiding her students. She like teaching and helping others and when you attend the class you can notice that easily.

SUNNY DAY
In background, Sun is shining very brightly. The light of the sun makes the long trees nearly invisible. Green of leaves and light yellow of the sun and color of sky –light blue- are merging. Under the show of sun we can see boles of trees. Beneath the trees’ feet big, large grassland is lying to our feet. Everywhere is green but the Sun made the top of the grass a bit yellow, sear.
In front of us there is a clarence but it does not seem completely. Only one of wooden cartwheel seems and it shows us it is a clarence. It can be put in garden as a décor. From our side of the cartwheel, under the clarence, there is a little gray cat. It is very small. The cartwheel’s diameter is almost four times bigger than the cat. The fur of the cat seems very fluffy. Top of the cat’s tail and its fur around its nose is white but generally it is gray. Color of the fur is like smoke and color of nose is very sweet. It is pink but it is very light. Both sides of nose there are the white cat whiskers. It seems very harmless.
At the back of the cat and clarence a little boy kneeled on. He cocked his head sideways in order to see and touch the cat very well. They seem like they are playing. The cat hided out back of the cartwheel but the boy found it. He has very beautiful, combed, blonde hair. Color of his hairs, eyebrows and eyelashes are the same color with the sun. He seems as if he is five. He is looking and trying to touch the cat. He seems very happy and he loves his little cat because while he is touching it, he is also smiling. He wore a jean its color is not too dark or light. He has a blue t-shirt and plaid shirt on it and it is blue, too. Every square has a different blue tone some of them dark some of them light, white etc. they have not any order First buttons of the shirt is shining but others can not be seen.
Generally it associates me a spring day. The weather is warming up the boy is playing with his little cat in garden, the cat is escaping and hiding out, he is trying to find. They are walking around, running, jumping, rolling on the grass, they are having fun together… Finally, their funny jokes and plays are ending under the clarance and finding his little friend makes little boy very happy.

MISTAKES
I was only twenty –one and working in a small town. I was the new teacher of a small, pretty school. At first sight I was very disappointed about my new and first school because materials and conditions were very bad, but then I thought I could change and make everything better than they were.
I can not forget my first day, it was like my first pupilage day I remembered all these old days. When I entered my class, I tried to find a familiar face, maybe I tried to find my first friends. I was very excited at first days, later I got accustomed to be a teacher. I tried to make my class more sweetie. I bought new maps, new colorful chalks, new tablecloths and a lot of things. At the end we – me and my students- made our class more livable. As I said I got accustomed to be a teacher but I never lost my first excitement. I loved my students very much and I have never forgotten them. Especially one of them, Yusuf.
He was very slender and skinny. He had dark brown eyes and hairs. He was very smart and funny. His unexpected questions were always made me smile. He was very tidy and neat. But few months later Yusuf changed completely. He began to behave aggressively and highfalutin. He did not speak and did not laugh. He was not so tidy; even he did not care his uniforms, his homework and his appearance. I was very surprised but I could not understand.
It was a winter day and weather was very cold. I came to school and one of my co-workers said that Yusuf injured a student of him. I called Yusuf and asked why he did. His answer was silly enough to make me very angry. He was guilty but he was telling his reason like a funny story. I said him angrily to go out and wait until the lesson finished. I know it was very cold but I did not let him to wear his coat. While I was in lesson I can see him at window. He was waiting, he was thrilling. I was regretful but I can not call him inside. He was punished and he should suffer his punishment. Then I was hooked on my lesson, I forgot Yusuf. At the end of the lesson I could not see him outside.
Yusuf did not come to school during the next week. I was very curious about him. I was waiting but he did not come. I cried many times but my students did not see that. I wanted him back, I wanted the old Yusuf. Finally he came and he surprised me once again. He changed again he was smiling, he was joking he was like the old Yusuf. But I have never forgotten my mistake.
One day I asked a question to my students, a big number answered but Yusuf could not. While I was walking between the desks I interested in all the students who could not answer and when Yusuf turns he was very timid. I was too. But I did not care and I took his pencil I showed him how he can solve and answer. When I asked him if he could understand or not, he just shaked his head up and down.
Years passed and I got retired. One day someone ring the bell and I opened the door I saw a man and when he came closer I can understand that he was a postman. He said me that I had a letter. That surprised me very much. I took my letter and I thanked him. After I closed the door I sat my rocker which I sat before the postman’s coming. I opened the white cover and paper. Handwriting was enormously beautiful, words were legible and I wore my glasses then start to read.
“My Dear Teacher;
……. I do not know ıf you remember me or not but I have never forget you. The day you punished me I did not tell you real reason. The student which I injured said bad things about my mother, he used abusive language and I could not stand that and I did not wait there where you showed me. When I looked inside the window, you are telling something on the board and I started to run. I run, run and run. While I was running, I was crying too. When I could open my eyes, I was in graveyard, near the grave which is my mother’s. I mourned and I cried loudly. I talked with my mother like other days, I promised her to be successful and became a tidy, clean, successful student and of course I promised to do my homework and not to make you sad. The day you punished me, you also changed my life. I decided to be the old Yusuf as the days when my mother was with me and alive. And the day you showed me solution of a problem I noticed that you smelled like my mother.
Last week I was in the same situation with you. One of my students injured the other one and I directly remembered you. But I did not punish them. At night I thought what would happen if I punished them? I could do it because I was angry but I did not. The difference between us was our experiences. You were not experienced but I was.
Finally my teacher I am a teacher like you and I can understand you better. I know you did not forget me, you could not. But please do not blame yourself, and feel sorry because my punishment turned me life again. Thanks to you, I found the right way, I could notice the things which I could not see that days. Please do not feel regret because I thank God because of that day. And today I noticed something too, teaching is not always teaching good things and it does not realize always in good ways, everybody can make mistakes, but it can be.
One of your naughty and funny student
Yusuf ARSLAN”
